U-Save Supermarkets ~ Handy Neighborhood Food Stores
1923 - Charles Bever and his wife Charlotte founded B & B Cash Grocery in Avon Park, FL.
1930's - The company grew with the opening of smaller grocery stores in the area.
1940's - The company began opening larger grocery stores.
1950's - B & B launched its lower priced U-Save Supermarkets format and began converting many of the chains existing
            B & B Cash Grocery stores to the U-Save Supermarkets name and format.
2002 - Concentrating more on commercial real estate than supermarkets, the company operates 11 U-Save Supermarkets
          and 26 Handy Food Stores in the Tampa, Florida area.

1968 - Basha's operated 17 stores in Arizona.
1989 - The company operated 45 supermarkets.
1992 - Basha's acquired the A.J.'s Fine Foods chain.
1993 - Basha's acquires the Hispanic grocery chain Food City.
1994 - The company operated 67 supermarkets in Arizona.
1996 - Basha's acquired the 16-store, Arizona-based Megafoods discount grocery chain.  Basha's now operated 89 stores.
2001 - The company acquired 22 former Southwest Supermarkets locations and operates them under its Food City banner.
2002 - Basha's operated 135 stores.
2007 - Basha's operates 153 stores under the Basha's, Food City, A.J.'s Fine Foods, Ike's Farmer's Markets and Basha's Dine
          Markets banners in AZ, NM and CA. (Basha's Dine Markets are located on Indian Reservations throughout AZ).

1968 - Big Y acquired the 7-store Jumbo Supermarket chain.
1972 - Big Y purchased 2 Popular Supermarket locations.
1984 - Big Y ventures outside of Massachusetts when it opens its first store in Connecticut.  The company also purchases
          Adams Supermarket in Berkshire County, MA.
1986 - Big Y Markets celebrated its 50th anniversary with 21 stores in MA and CT.
1996 - Big Y acquired 6 former Edwards Super Food Stores locations from Ahold USA.
2001 - Big Y opened its first in-store pharmacy.
2003 - Big Y purchased 4 former A&P locations in MA and CT.  The family-owned company operates 51 supermarkets and
          liquor stores.
