1996 - Ben Bequer and his family founded Fiesta Mexicana Market in Anaheim, CA.
1999 - The company opened its third store in San Bernardino, CA.
2000 - The company opened its distribution warehouse in Fontana, CA and opened its fourth store in Highland Park, CA.
2001 - Fiesta sold its Highland Park store.
2008 - The company operates 10 supermarkets in California under the Fiesta Foods Warehouse banner.

1972 - Fiesta Mart is founded in Houston, TX.
2008 - Fiesta Mart operates 49 supermarkets in Texas.

1907 - Fisher Bros. Co. was founded in Cleveland, OH by three brothers.
1909 - Fisher Bros. operated 7 stores.
1916 - Fisher Bros. operated 48 stores and introduced a "cash and carry" system.
1923 - Charles Rini & Sons was founded in Cleveland, OH.
1928 - With 323 stores located in northern Ohio, Fisher Bros. sales reach $ 18 million.
1937 - Fisher Bros. introduced its self service Master Market format.
1939 - Fisher Bros. operated over 300 stores.
1948 - Charles Rini & Sons joins with other Cleveland-area grocers to form Food Town, a voluntary association.
1952 - Food Town acquired the Edwards Food Stores voluntary chain.
1957 - Brothers Martin, Anthony and Michael, founded Rini Supermarkets Inc.
1957 - American Seaway Foods is formed as a wholesale grocer through the combination of  Eagle Wholesale, Economy
          Wholesale,  J.F. Sanson and the David Lombardi Co.
1959 - Pick-N-Pay acquired Food Town.
1961 - Fisher Bros. changed its name to Fisher Foods.
1968 - Fisher Foods in the Midwest and California including Illinois-based Dominick's Finer Foods.
1972 - Fisher Foods acquired the 46-store Shopping Bag chain.
1975 - Fisher Foods operated 197 stores in Ohio, Illinois, and California.
1978 . Fisher Foods sold its 46 California stores to Albertsons.
1979 - Fisher Foods launched its grocery warehouse stores format in Ohio.
1980 - Fisher Foods sold 6 Fazio's in Columbus to Ohio-based Seaway Food Town.
1981 - Dominick DiMatteo bought the 71 store Dominick's Finer Foods chain back from Fisher Foods leaving Fisher with
          57 supermarkets in Ohio, a commercial bakery in Columbus, a doughnut plant in Cincinnati, an ice cream plant, a
          distribution center, a fruit basket company, a meat commissary, and a produce warehouse.
1982 - Fisher Foods operated 47 supermarkets in Northeast Ohio.
1984 - American Financial Corp. acquired 35% of Fisher Foods.
1986 - Fisher Foods opened 6 Carl's Superstores and 2 Jay discount drugstores.
1987 - 5300 Ricmond Road Corp., a joint venture of American Seaway Foods, Rego's Stop-N-Shop (11 stores), and Rini's
          Stop-N-Shop (10 stores), acquired American Financial's stake in Fisher Foods.
1988 - Riser Foods is formed as a holding company through the combination of Fisher Foods, Rini Stop-N-Shop,
          Rego Stop-N-Shop and American Seaway Foods.  The new combined company operated 53 stores: Fazio's (1 store),
          Rini's Stop-N-Shops (11 stores), Rego's Stop-N-Shops (10 stores), Rini-Rego Stop-N-Shops (18 stores), Carl's Superstores
          (11 stores), Food Center Supermarket (1 store), and Supersavers discount drugstore (1 store).
1997 - Pennsylvania-based Giant Eagle acquired Riser Foods.

1950 - Food Basket Suprette is opened by Joseph Azzolina and his son John in Middletown, New Jersey.
1954 - Food Circus joins the Twin County Grocers cooperative (Foodtown).
1955 - Food Basket launches its first Food Circus supermarket.
1955 - Foodtown trademark is developed by Twin County Grocers.
1956 - The Middletown, NJ store is the first to operate under the Foodtown banner.
1977 - Food Circus acquires 3 Finast supermarkets in New Jersey and operates them under the Foodtown banner.
1979 - Food Circus acquires a Grand Union supermarket in New Jersey and operates it as a Foodtown.
1980 - Food Circus acquires 4 Stop & Shop supermarkets in New Jersey and operates them under the Foodtown banner.
1984 - The company opens the largest supermarket in New Jersey (Toms River) and operates it as a Super Foodtown.
2000 - Food Circus reorganizes.
2006 - Food Circus operates 10 supermarkets in New Jersey under the Foodtown and Super Foodtown banners.

1918 - The first Food City store is opened in Greenville, TN.
1955 - The Smith family opened their first store in Grundy, VA.
1984 - K-VA-T acquired the 19 store, TN-based Quality Foods chain which operated as Food City.  K-VA-T adopted the
          Food City name for all of the company's supermarkets.
1989 - K-VA-T purchased the TN-based, 43-store White Stores chain.
1998 - K-VA-T acquired 11 Piggly Wiggly stores.
1999 - K-VA-T purchased 7 Knoxville Winn Dixie locations.
2006 - The company purchased 8 BI-LO stores in the Knoxville area.

2008 - Unrelated to the defunct Philadelphia-based Food Fair Stores, Food Fair operates 12 supermarkets in WV, KY and OH.

 

FOOD WORLD  (North Carolina)
1917 - George Hutchens founded Food World in High Point, NC.
1984 - The Ruddick Corp. acquired Food World and merged its 52 supermarkets with their Harris Teeter chain.

1948 - FoodLand was founded in Honolulu, HI.
1967 - Foodland expands statweide.
2008 - Foodland is a locally-owned chain of 29 supermarkets in Hawaii under the Foodland and Sack N Save banners.

1909 - Fulmer Supermarkets was founded in Ohio.
1964 - CWC Companies (supermarket chain) was founded in Ohio.
1995 - Fresh Encounter acquired CWC Companies.
1998 - Fresh Encounter acquired Fulmer Supermarkets.
2008 - Fresh Encounter operates 30 supermarkets in Ohio and Indiana under the Community Markets, Great Scot,
          Fulmer Community Markets and Sack 'N Save banners.

FURR'S GROCERY
1929 - Roy Furr purchased 6 grocery stores in Texas.
1975 - Furr's operates 68 supermarkets and family centers, 57 cafeterias and a realty company.
1979 - Four years after Roy Furr's death, the company declared bankruptcy.  The supermarkets were sold to a West German
          investor's group and the cafeterias were sold to K-Mart.
