1952 - Save Mart
Supermarkets is founded in Modesto, CA.
1986 - Food Maxx was founded in Bakersfield, CA.
1989 - Save Mart acquires 30 Fry's supermarket locations from
Kroger.
1997 - Save Mart purchased several Pak N Save Stores from Safeway an
10 Lucky Stores locations.
2002 - The company acquired all Northern California corporate-owned
Food 4 Less Stores from the Fleming Group and operates
these stores under the
Food Maxx banner.
2004 - Save Mart purchased 25 Food 4 Less stores and operates them
as Food Maxx bringing the Food Maxx total to
44 stores.
2006 - Save Mart purchased 3 former Ralph's Supermarkets locations
in the Central Valley.
2007 - Save Mart acquired 132 Albertsons supermarkets in Northern
California and Northern Nevada. 72 of these locations
are planned to be renamed
Lucky with the remainder becoming Save Mart locations. Save
Mart operates a total of
252 supermarkets under
the Save Mart, Food Maxx and Lucky banners.
