1914 - Italian immigrant, Salvatore Greco, bought an old horse and wagon and began selling fruits and vegetables in the
          streets of Tampa, Florida.

1922 -
Salvatore and his wife Giuseppina opened a small store in front of their house selling produce and other staples.
1947 - Big Barn banner established under the Greco family ownership including sons, daughters and sons in law.
1960 - Big Barn grows to a nine-store operation under the banner Tampa Wholesale.
1962 - Tampa Wholesale adopted the name “Kash n’ Karry” under a policy that they wouldn’t offer typical supermarket
          gimmicks such as weekend specials, stamps and contests. Instead they delivered savings everyday.
1970 - Kash n’ Karry now has grown to 48 stores, plus over 100 trucks in its fleet, a complete service garage and computerized
         warehousing complex.
1973 - Kash n’ Karry established the tagline “Friendly Supermarkets and Kare Drugs” and growth expands into 11 counties in
          west central Florida.
1976 - Kash n’ Karry distribution center opened in Tampa, Florida. The three- story building included 55,000 sq. ft. of office
          space with an additional 700,000 sq. ft. warehouse.
1979 - California based Lucky Stores acquired Kash n’ Karry stores for inclusion in Lucky’s network of retail holdings
         throughout the United States.
1985 - Kash n' Karry purchases Grand Union's Florida stores.

1988
- Kash n' Karry senior management in association with an investment firm, purchased Kash n' Karry from Lucky Stores.
1988 - Kash n' Karry acquires 24 Florida Choice Supermarkets and 24 liquor stores from the Kroger Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.
1989 - Kash n' Karry grows to 97 supermarkets and over 8,200 associates with annual sales exceeding $900 million.
1992 - Kash n' Karry purchases 3 Save n' Pack warehouse stores from Wetterau Inc. of St. Louis.
1994 - Company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
1995 - Company emerges from Chapter 11, sheds debt and goes public.
2001 - Kash n' Karry is acquired by Belgian-based Delhaize Group.
2004 - 34 stores are closed.  Company announces that all remaining stores (Florida West Coast) will be remodeled and the
          company may change its name.
2005 - Kasn 'n Karry announces name change to Sweetbay Supermarkets and begins remodeling and renaming all stores.
2007 - All former Kash n' Karry Supermarkets are remodeled and renamed under the Sweetbay Supermarkets banner.

These stores were originally opened by A & P in the 1970's as "Family Mart" stores, purchased by Kroger in the 1980's
and re-named "Florida Choice"  then sold to Kash n' Karry a couple of years later.
In 2006 Kash n' Karry re-named these stores "Sweetbay".
